Chiika- Unlearning

On this sultry and strong (in mindset) new mini album featured on BBC Music Introducing Oxford, from 21 year old R&B singer Chiika, mystery lends itself to relatability. 'Unlearning' is the collection of her reflective thoughts.

Based on previous relationships and with her unique way of writing 'Gr8ful/ H8ful', she starts of with this track and then dives into 'Saviour' next 'Real Deep' then 'Incredible'. By rendering herself, Chiika is looking to create a space for her listeners to fill in the blanks and take what they need from each song, as 'Unlearning' is about realising how toxic a relationship can become, past relationships, knowing a person intimately, self-empowerment and more.

While there are many shades of being 'Gr8ful/ H8ful' in this song, there's also the slow burning of not forgiving a person and the learning of self-respect, within her words. This R&B singer is saying that anger can be healthy but indulging in it can be dangerous. Her lyrics get to the point.

Chiika said “This EP was written in the span of a few weeks where I spent a lot of time analysing every single relationship I’d ever had, including the one I have with myself, and applying pressure to see where the cracks were. What I found was difficult to accept at times, annoying at others, but still allowed me to know myself even better – and these songs are the result.”

'Saviour' is the track to realise a relationship is bad for you. She balances vulnerability with assertiveness. when she sings.

These are just a few songs that are written about but all these songs is just the start for Chiika's music career. Good luck on her journey and keep your eye out for the London born, Oxford raised R&B singer.
