How To Use Social Media During a Concert.... Nile Rodgers & Chic Did It, So Can You.

December 30, 2018

Social media marketing and content is a great tool for building more of a buzz and that's what Nile Rodgers & Chic did for their music tour 2018. Using this form of marketing and content helps build more excitment around your music gigs, concerts and festivals to drive more engagement before, during and after, helping to squeeze the most value from your efforts.

Nile Rodgers, a 66 year old Grammy Award- Winning American record producer and guitarist for the likes of Chic, Sister Sledge, Duran Duran, David Bowie, Diana Ross, Daft Punk and Pharell Williams to name a few, used social media during his and Chic's 'It's About Time' tour. Their latest tracks were with Craig David and Stefflon Don 'Sober' and recently LunchMoney Lewis 'Do You Wanna Party'.

I had the privilege of going to their concert, 19th December at o2 Arena, London. It was amazing and felt like a massive party. Balloons,  party poppers, old classic such as 'Freak Out', 'I Want Your Love' ft Lady Gaga, 'Everybody Dance' and 'My Forbidden Lover' plus The Sugarhill Gang 'Rappers Delight'. Everybody knows these songs....

Anyway, back to the topic at hand... Social Media is the best way to foster excitement and connect with your audience about your music gigs, concerts, tours or festivals, whilst they are there. You can, also, gain a new bunch of followers too. Did you ever think of that? Maybe Not. Basically what you are doing is taking advantage of your audience (attendees) who are always glued to their phones and now with Vlogging as a career, you definitely don't want to miss any oppurtunities for more engagement and PR.

What Nile Rodgers & Chic did was they gave us something to do whilst we were all partying, singing a long and just enjoying ourselves with friends, family and others. I'm sure they were thinking "our audience will be posting videos and photos via social media anyway, so why not possibly use some of the best videos

taken of our performances and use them for future projects. Any portion of their videos will be granted name credit on our future projects". I thought brilliant idea because this is the start of something new, sort of. Well not many musicians do anything like this.

Even though this was all done through Nile Rodger's website, they still took advantage of social media. It's doesn't have to be videos though, you could create a specific hashtag for photos and lots more.

The benefits of using social media or anything via peoples mobile/cell phones is....

1. You're inviting your audience (attendees) or fans to engage and feel connected with you so you are more likely to get more ROI from your music, merchandise, books and/ or product sales etc

2. People will definitely talk about their experience and give you more 'word of mouth' PR.

3. Social media marketing and content is a great tool for building more of a buzz around your music gigs, concerts, tours or festivals to drive more engagement before, during and after, helping to squeeze the most value from your efforts.

So why not get a professional social media content creator and marketer to help you gain more buzz and ROI (return on investment) for you, whether you're a singer, DJ or in a band. Click here for more information or email me for a consultation.
