How SEO Copywriting and Content Can Support Your Business

Updated: Mar 27, 2021

How do you support your business to get higher rankings on search engines, gain more traffic, conversions and paying clients or customers? SEO (search engine optimisation) is the way.

So, I'm guessing you don't always choose the best words to use, that will elevate you and dominate you in your niche, right? You've heard of SEO (search engine optimisation) a little, know what it does and kind of know how to use it but you're just not confident enough in this area. Then you've come to the right place.

*FYI*... "Creativity is still a large part of what makes copy great. Crafting compelling copy that combines authenticity with proven marketing principles is vital; but did you know that customer analysis, market research, strategy, positioning and understanding the client's tone of voice are the first things copywriters do before they've written a single word? SEO for the specific industry, Google analytics and understanding the client's target audience are other things we do first before writing anything even a single word"

Dats Muzik does web copy and blog writing for these industries....

  • Architecture and Interior Design

  • Hair & Beauty

  • Coaching

  • Apps

  • Cashback

  • Diverse and black led businesses

Let's get to it... Copywriting is written with the purpose of creating a conversion or a sale e.g. website, sales page, webinar, video scripts, Facebook and Google ads etc. Content Writers do blog posts, email newsletters, videos, social media posts, images and graphics. Our purpose is to create engagement and get people to care about your business or products. There are some differences but more similarities, so if a person can do copy they most likely can do content.

SEO means Search Engine Optimisation. Simply put it's the process of gaining more traffic to your website. So using the right words, in your copy, that your target audience and industry will use to search for you on Google or YouTube is crucial. I believe everyone should use SEO not just write then hope, wish and pray people will find you. *FYI* YouTube is the next search engine after Google, as most people are creating and watching videos now more than ever.

First things first, whether this is for a website, blog post or email newsletter, you have to think like your customers/ clients when you're writing your headline/ title, strapline or USP. It's best to use who, what, when, where, why, How or '5 Ways To...' as a question or hook them in with what you do, the industry and client e.g. How Are Hair Salons Moving Forward in 2021? 5 Ways CEOs and Business Owners Are Needing Exposure More Than Ever? Or... Transforming Lives Through Architecture. All people use one of the 5 Ws or 1H when they're searching online and adding the industry/ main point as well, will make your business easier to find.

Secondly, SEO description is basically the first 40 words or less that appear after your headline/ title, when you come up on Google. It's your first paragraph on your website or blog post. This should be a brief description, explaining what your business is about or your blog post is about with the main SEO words in it e.g. Becoming a London Business Owner (headline/ title). Into the land of the creatives. It took me 3 years of coaching to finally take the plunge and make this my full-time career (SEO Description).... London, business owner, creatives, coaching, full-time, career are SEO words. These are the words your audience would use to find you. What industry are you in? What words would people use to find you and words in that industry? You get me?!

The third thing? SEO, in my eyes, is about sprinkling a bit of magic dust throughout everything you write. The magic dust is the right words that will dominate you in your niche. It's all about improving the quality and quantity of website traffic to a website or web page from search engines (Google and YouTube) and ranking your business up higher and higher on the Google site or YouTube explore/ recommendation page. The dream is to be on the 1st Google page and the very first website on top. Type in Afrobeat blog and I come up 3rd. If you work in the music industry, own an architecture or interior design business, work in hair & beauty, are a coach or own an app, have a cashback company or are a diverse and black led busines, then research your words.

Research what words your audience use regularly to find businesses like yours and incorporate those words throughout. The more you use them, the more you'll be found. Where to find SEO words? Pinterest, Instagram hashtags and general Google search.

You can't do one or the other. You have to do all 3 things and then this is how you support your business to get higher rankings on search engines, gain more traffic, conversions and paying clients or customers. SEO (search engine optimisation) is just a way for new people to find you. There's strategy to it but it's not as hard as you may think. Want to work with Dats Muzik? Click here.
