Before you’ve listened to this duets music, you think they’re related to the rock or heavy metal genre, don’t you? Are we right? Somehow the name gives that feeling and vibe. It’s hard to explain why but actually Kill This City is a dance, electro pop duet and they are great. Two unstoppable forces joined together last year with their catchy hooks and electronic music from Albany, New York.
Like all dance, dubstep and electronic music, which some people love and some don’t like... After a couple of spins it’s melody, bass, lyrics and intricate production detail a firm grip into our ears. When you go out with friends to a nightclub, have a few drinks and are feeling the atmosphere of everyones joy, you suddenly hear the beat, click your fingers and immediately know the song. Whether you know the name or not some part of your body always
moves automatically to the beat.
‘Let Me See You Dance’
With this song people will imagine a group of friends in a nightclub. At the beginning we see all of them and everyone else dance then it just focuses on these two people, who are attracted to each other. They dance side by side, jump to the beat of the music, do the same moves in their own way, look into each other’s eyes, get even closer than before and at the end the guy gives a kiss on the girls cheek or he’s full out there and she responds... All in slow motion. Now your beginning to imagine a scene from a film, aren’t you? Listen to this song now and imagine it. With lyrics such as
‘Feeling sexy. Thinking dirty. I’m gonna see what your about’, ‘let me see if you’re enough to get my juices on the rise. You’re the girl that’s on my side’, ‘whisper what we’re gonna do’ and ‘every time I see you girl, I can’t stop
thinking about the thing that we gonna do tonight’ . So your imaginary guy, lol, has been going to this club many times before and seen the same beautiful girl, in his eyes.
Don’t you feel like you’re travelling? To Ibiza, maybe Las Vegas or not but just in your garden, hosting a barbecue, jammed full of friends with their hands in the air as the best DJ is grooving all the way, whilst the sun is low? Well that’s all that has to be said.
Whilst a couple of their songs contain good rhythms and bass etc they’re not catchy enough, if you know what we mean?! They don’t grab you instantly but you can hear that a lot of work has been put into composing them.
For the album a quick blast would suggest that each song thrives on this duets input, with the two of them sounding comfortable throughout. It’s clear that they’ve really put their whole effort and have offered up a list of songs that parades their taste, talent and individuality.
However it’s always good to hear different but unique dance tracks, as there isn’t enough these days. It’s all R&B, pop and rock plus the videos are always in competition... This artists or bands video has to be better than the next. Sometimes the best is just listening to the music and putting your own opinion on it than being hooked to the video first then liking the song.
It’s up to you. Have a listen to Kill This City’s album and you’ll see what we mean.
